Toronto Blue Jays ace Alek Manoah will have a chance to get right against the Kansas City Royals in the lone night game on Wednesday’s MLB slate. Standing in the way of his first win of the season will be the Kansas City Royals, who have shown some signs of growth in the first week. Veteran Zack Greinke will be opposing Manoah, and with fantasy players considering making some waiver wire moves, let’s take a look at the Alek Manoah-Zack Greinke fantasy baseball projections for Wednesday night.
Alek Manoah-Zack Greinke Fantasy Baseball Projections
Alek Manoah will be looking to bounce back from a rough Opening Day. The hard-throwing righty was knocked out by the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing nine hits and five earned runs. After the start, Manoah admitted he wasn’t operating with his usual aggression.
“Sometimes, you try to overthink pitches just because it’s a really good lineup,” he told the Toronto Sun. “Looking back, when I’m attacking, I’m hard to hit. That’s always when I’m going to be at my best.
“I just need to do a little more of that.”
The clunker is hardly a reason for fantasy baseball owners to fret, though. Manoah was 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA in 2022, finishing third in the AL Cy Young race. Stokastic’s DFS projections have Manoah projected at 15.10 fantasy points on Wednesday.
Fantasy owners may feel inclined to make a waiver-wire move on Zack Greinke (owned in just 7.2% of ESPN leagues) given the pedigree. The veteran returned to the Royals on a one-year deal in the offseason after a solid 2022 campaign. Greinke was likely tabbed as the Opening Day starter as a sign of respect and once again put together a solid performance.
Greinke battled against the Twins on Thursday, giving up just two runs in 5.1 innings, scattering six hits while striking out four. Still, Greinke’s pitch-to-contact approach makes him a tough fantasy sell, and he’ll have his work cut out for him against a Blue Jays lineup that ranks near the top of the league. The projections have him at just 1018 fantasy points against the Jays.
The Zack Greinke-Alex Manoah fantasy baseball projections show that while the Blue Jays star is in a good spot for a bounce back, Greinke should be left alone.
