Angels-Mariners Odds

Angels: -125 | Mariners: +107
Angels -1.5: +160 | Mariners +1.5: -200
Over 9.5: -112 | Under 9.5: -109

The Angels entered this weekend’s series against the Mariners at 56-53. They quickly lost the first three games against Seattle and are now fighting to stay over .500. The downswing is much to the chagrin of the team’s players, management and especially to their fans who had high hopes after they decided to acquire talent at the trade deadline. Many had expected the Angels to sell off salary, including a possible move to ship Ohtani to a contender. Instead they became contenders themselves.

Los Angeles added Lucas Giolito, C.J. Cron and Randal Grichuk to bolster its roster, expecting the moves to vault them back into the playoff race. That hasn’t happened yet, and time is ticking as the MLB season enters its final stretch. If the Angels do turn want to turn things around, there may be no better time than tonight. They can salvage a team against their AL West rival and fellow Wild Card hopeful Seattle Mariners.

The Angels will have Chase Silseth on the hill to start the game. Silseth was once a solid prospect in their organization but faltered in his first stint in the league in 2022. He posted an ugly 6.59 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in seven starts a year ago. However, he has improved in 2023, moving between Triple-A and the big league club. Silseth has also spent some time in the bullpen. He has three starts and 11 overall appearances, posting a 3.99 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and just below a strikeout per inning. Most of his success has come in his last two outings. He went five innings of one-run ball against the Atlanta Braves on the road on July 6. Silseth went 5.2 innings and gave up one run against the New Yankees in the start before that, which came with 10 strikeouts.

The strikeout stuff could continue against the Seattle Mariners, who whiff at the second-highest rate in baseball. The market may simply be overestimating the Mariners’ offensive chances against an improving Silseth. Many of the MLB prop bets on the Seattle hitters are mispriced at BetRivers. You can find the highest positive expected value on Teoscar Hernandez to go under 0.5 hits. This Angels-Mariners bet is at +200, but it has true odds of +193 and a win rate of 34%. It’s a high-variance spot that only connects about a third of the time, so don’t stake your net worth on it! But is you’re using the Kelly Criterion for proper bankroll management you should wager about .4% of your bankroll on this one.
