Bailey Falter-Martin Perez Fantasy Baseball Projections

Per Stokastic’s expert DFS projections, Martin Perez (owned in 32.6% of ESPN leagues) projects slightly above Bailey Falter (owned in 1.4%) at 14.77 points compared to 13.07 for the Phillies’ southpaw.

Perez takes the ball for the Rangers in his second year with the team since being re-acquired prior to the 2022 season. He had a career-resurgence for Texas last year, going 12-8 with a 2.89 ERA in just under 200 innings pitched. He was named to the All-Stae team for the first time in his 11-year MLB career.

The veteran simplified his arsenal to find success again, basically eliminating his four-seam fastball and curveball by throwing those pitches less than 10% of the time. He got back to making his sinker the primary pitch, with the cutter and changeup making him mostly a three-pitch pitcher.

For Falter, there is much more unknown surrounding what he can bring to the Phillies. The 25-year-old found some success in his rookie season in 2022, going 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 84.0 innings pitched. While those numbers aren’t terrible on the surface, it was his 85 hits and 15 home runs allowed that served as a warning sign for the Phillies’ brass. Falter was able to secure a spot in the Phillies rotation due to the UCL injury suffered by Andrew Painter at the end of the offseason.

Falter will be tasked with trying to limit the Rangers’ offense and avoid the Phillies getting swept in the Opening Weekend. The Rangers have shown a ton of offensive firepower in the first two games, combining to score an incredible 27 runs.

When looking at the Bailey Falter-Martin Perez fantasy baseball projections for Sunday night, it is easy to see why Perez is the much safer play for owners who are looking to throw one of the starters into their lineup.
