Best Angels-Dodgers MLB Betting Pick & Prediction: Shohei Ohtani Bounces Back Today (July 7)

Tonight’s late slate promises some solid action. In one of the late games, the Los Angeles Dodgers will host the Los Angeles Angels on ESPN+. Both teams are contending for their respective divisions but must string some wins together to assert themselves after less-than-stellar results through their last 10 games. Let’s dive into today’s Angels-Dodgers odds as we make our predictions and pick the best MLB bet!

Best MLB Angels-Dodgers Betting Pick & Prediction: Shohei Ohtani Bounces Back Today

Angels-Dodgers Odds
Odds via BetMGM
Angels: +145 | Dodgers: -175
Angels +1.5: -135 | Dodgers -1.5: +110
Over 9: +100 | Under 9: -120

The Dodgers will host the Angels tonight, and they’ll trust RHP Tony Gonsolin on the mound. Gonsolin has a steady 3.69 ERA, but that isn’t sustainable relative to his 4.55 xERA. The Angels will start RHP Griffin Canning, whose 4.29 ERA is a touch higher than his 3.93 xERA. Although the public may give the pitching advantage to the Dodgers, the Angels are likelier to have a leg up on the mound early. The advanced stats suggest fading Gonsolin for an overdue bad game could be sharp.

But while the Angels may have an edge at starting pitcher, the Dodgers have an edge on offense. The Dodgers rank second in expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) at .347, trailing only the Atlanta Braves (.364). The Angels rank a still-respectable fifth, but their .336 xwOBA slots in behind the Dodgers by a healthy margin. Most of the Angels’ success in the metric stems from two players, Mike Trout (.392) and Shohei Ohtani (.426). Unfortunately for the Angels, Trout remains on the injured list.

I have a pair of betting angles in mind for this game. First up, taking the Dodgers to cover the runline against a severely depleted Angels team should prove sharp. The Dodgers are 21-22 on the runline at home this year, but they tick up slightly to 21-20 as home favorites. The Angels have gone a steady 17-13 on the runline as a road underdog, but that ranks below the MLB average. The Dodgers are only +120 (45.5%) at DraftKings to win by multiple runs.

Second, betting on a bounce-back showing from Shohei Ohtani should also prove sharp. Ohtani went hitless in the series against the San Diego Padres and has just one hit, a home run, in the month of July. However, Ohtani began the month on an eight-game hitting streak in which he recorded multiple bases in all but one game. Let’s back Ohtani to record at least two bases tonight at odds of -105 (51.2%) at BetMGM — you won’t find this MLB player prop priced so affordably every day.
