Dansby Swanson has been a big catalyst for the Chicago Cubs success this season, as he and Cody Bellinger have the Cubs slated in the second Wild Card spot and riding a three-game winning streak. Swanson hasn’t been great as of late, but I’m buying the bounce back with Swanson in the five-hole and getting great opportunities to hit runners in.
Reese Olson will get the ball for the Detroit Tigers tonight, with sportsbooks projecting him to have a short leash. DraftKings has vig on the under of 15.5 outs, which have cashed in five of 11 starts this season. In his rookie season, Olson has been a viable option for the Tigers, with a 4.45 ERA before getting rocked in his last start against the Minnesota Twins. He allowed eight hits on four runs and failed to pitch into the fourth inning. Olson’s xBA ranks in the 22nd percentile in baseball, which is a great sign for the Cubs to come out swinging tonight in what projects to be decent hitting conditions.
Even with Swanson’s struggles, he’s going to be put in great positions to cash this player prop. As a team, the Cubs rank in the top 10 in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging against right-handed pitching in August. Hitting in fifth behind Bellinger, who has a hit in over 70% of road games this season, should give Swanson runners on base in most of his at-bats. The Cubs being the road team makes this a prime opportunity for Swanson to hit in the ninth inning and almost guarantees at least four at-bats.
