Best Cubs-Tigers Odds, Pick & Prediction: Chase the Playoff Stakes
This line for the Cubs on OddsShopper comes in anywhere from a -130 to -140 favorite across the market. And since the Cubs are the pick here, logically the -130 is the best play for a team that absolutely needs every win it can find to stay in the playoff race. Coming off a successful series against the Royals, the Cubs now sit at 65-59 and have a straight .500 record on the road. They send Javier Assad to the mound tonight, and despite him being mostly a relief pitcher, he has some starting pedigree. In three August starts, Assad carries a 2.70 ERA and has thrown 80-plus pitches in all three. That should allow him the chance to pitch deep into the game and eat up some innings for Chicago.
On the flip side, the 57-67 Detroit Tigers seem to have little to nothing left to play for. They are returning home after a road trip, which is a positive, but a negative-98 run differential on the year tells the story of a team searching for answers. Although taking three of four from Cleveland is impressive, the spot here is not great for them. If the Tigers are to get the win, Alex Faedo will need to perform better than his 2-4 record and 5.16 ERA. That balloons to 6.16 at home, and despite that coming from limited sample size, Chicago should be able to get to him.
Like all bets, finding the best line is step 1 here, but in addition to that, the Cubs are set up well. They bring a competent arm to the mound and take on a Tigers team that even at home sports a 26-33 record.
