As you would expect, the Los Angeles Dodgers are favored with LHP Clayton Kershaw (8-4) taking the hill. Kershaw has looked as elite as ever — he owns a 2.95 ERA and a 3.52 xERA so far this year. Although Kershaw’s ERA has spiked from 1.70 at home to 3.97 on the road through 14 games this year, he pitched an eight-inning shutout in Angel Stadium last year while allowing a single hit. He’ll line up against LHP Reid Detmers (1-5), whose 4.48 ERA and 4.38 xERA are far less impressive.
The Angels and Dodgers have two of the best offenses in baseball this year. The Angels rank fourth in weighted on-base average, or wOBA, at .334, and third in expected weighted on-base average, or xwOBA, at .338. The Dodgers are just slightly ahead — they also rank fourth in wOBA at .334 but rank second in xwOBA at .348. Both teams have been pretty consistent at home and on the road this year, with neither team’s OPS moving by more than .03 between the two splits.
The most interesting market for this game is the total. The pair of elite offenses may make the over somewhat enticing, but the solid pitching on the mound could limit scoring. Pregame reports that 65% of the money has come in on the under but on only 49% of the bets. One of our other experts, Eytan Shander, is on the NRFI line for this game.
