Alonso needs to come up huge for the Mets during this stretch. They are on the brink of selling or going for a playoff push. They were shut out last night by LHP Julio Urias who is a step up from who Alonso will see tonight in RHP Tony Gonsolin.
Gonsolin made his season debut in late April and was sensational. He put together a 1.95 ERA in May but has struggled since. In two starts in July, opponents are hitting .317 against him with two home runs. With film on him this season, hitters are starting to figure him out.
Alonso has rocked 18 home runs against RHP this season and 26 in total. With Gonsolin trending in the wrong direction, this is a prime spot for not only the Mets offense but Alonso to light fireworks at home where he’s hit 10 home runs.
