Jarred Kelenic was once one of the Seattle Mariners top prospects. Kelenic hasn’t turned into a star, but he is a competent hitter, especially against right handed pitching. Enter Colin Rea and the Milwaukee Brewers. At 32-years old, Rea takes the hill as a “4A” type player against a Seattle team that can put up runs. Kelenic is batting in the 6-hole and should have a couple chances to face off against Rea. OddsShopper’s model’s is identifying value on his odds to hit a home run at FanDuel Sportsbook. Best Brewers-Mariners MLB Prop Bet: Jarred Kelenic O/U 0.5 Home Runs
2023 is Jarred Kelenic’s third stint with the Mariners, and it is likely to be a full season. Kelenic earned 337 ABs in 2021 with the big league club, posting fourteen home runs in that rookie season. He had just 163 ABs and seven home runs in 2022. That could change this year. Kelenic already has four home runs in 51 ABs. He is hitting .333 with .393 a 1.060 OPS. He’s mostly played in a platoon role, taking most of his plate appearances off of right handed pitching. The platoon could be proving effective for him.
The former top prospect is still only 23 years old. With 500 ABs under his belt and a good hitting situation he could be set to post strong numbers. It wouldn’t be surprising if he did so against the Brewers’ Colin Rea. The 32-year old journeyman was slated to pitching in Triple-A but the organization needed his help after Brandon Woodruff hit the injured list early last week.
Rea was effective in his first start of the year against the San Diego Padres. He allowed one earned run in five and two thirds innings, chipping in six strikeouts. Those numbers are unlikely to repeat themselves against the Mariners.
If Rea’s career statistics and time in the majors is any indication of his talent, Seattle could post strong offensive numbers tonight. In fact, Rea has not been given the chance to start more than two major league games since 2016. He had eighteen starts that year, twelve more than his previous career high of six.
The Mariners have a 4.6 implied run total in this matchup and if they reach that number or more, it’s likely that Kelenic could be involved in the scoring. OddsShopper’s model has his chances to hit a home run at 15%. You can buy that at +600 on FanDuel, which has an 8% expected ROI. It won’t happen often, but it’s worth putting out a small bet around 1% of your bankroll. The market could move, so it’s worth grabbing this Brewers-Mariners MLB prop bet as the game nears.
