Best Padres-Giants MLB Betting Pick & Prediction: Side with the Road Favorite (June 19)

Although we don’t have a ton of baseball action in store on Monday night, the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are the only teams in action late this evening. The game won’t appear on national television but should still draw plenty of attention. Let’s dive into the Padres-Giants odds as we make our predictions and pick the best MLB bet!

Best MLB Padres-Giants Betting Pick & Prediction: Side With the Road Favorite

Padres-Giants Odds
Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook
Padres: -115 | Giants: -105
Over 9: +100 | Under 9: -120

Both the Padres and Giants will start pitchers who own solid numbers. RHP Michael Wacha (7-2) will take the mound for San Diego. His 2.89 ERA is a bit inflated relative to his 4.05 xERA, but that’s no reason to fade him. He’ll line up against San Francisco’s RHP Ryan Walker (2-0), who owns a 1.23 ERA through 11 relief appearances and 14.2 innings pitched. He’ll serve as the opener with LHP Sean Manaea (2-3) likely coming in afterward. Manaea has seriously struggled this year and owns a 5.84 ERA and a 5.48 xERA.

But even though the Padres should have the edge on the mound, the Giants should have one at the plate. San Francisco ranks eighth in weighted on-base average, or wOBA, at .329, and 10th in expected weighted on-base average, or xwOBA, at .326. In contrast, San Diego ranks 17th in wOBA (.314) and 15th in xwOBA (.323). Although the Padres have invested heavily in recruiting big-name offensive stars, their players not named Fernando Tatis Jr. or Juan Soto have struggled to actually produce.

San Diego’s offense should figure things out eventually. With San Francisco likely turning to its not-so-great bullpen to eke out a win, I want action on the Padres. Let’s target one of their batters, Xander Bogaerts, to get a hit. Bogaerts has recorded at least one hit in 49 of his 66 games this year (74.2%) and in 10 of his 12 games in June (83.3%). Pairing that prop with the Padres moneyline for a same-game parlay with odds of +135 (42.6%) at DraftKings Sportsbook should yield a positive return.
