We JUST missed back-to-back bangs! We got robbed on an amazing catch by Cubs centerfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong that would’ve for sure given us a run in the first inning in Rockies-Cubs. Nothing much we can do but tip our cap. We had ample opportunities for the YRFI in the game; the teams just couldn’t cash it for us. Such is life.
Wednesday always brings split-slate MLB betting action, and you know I’ve got the plug for you all day. I’ve got TWO picks for the early games, and I dropped those YRFI/NRFI bets in a thread for my followers on Twitter earlier. Make sure to follow me on Twitter to get all my picks and bonus NRFI bets I’ll drop throughout the week.
Let’s get to the main course — Wednesday’s yes and no run first inning bets.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Mets First Inning Bet
Joey Lucchesi starts for the Mets today, and he’s 3-3 on NRFIs so far this season. Obviously, that’s nothing to get worked up over, but he’s been solid thus far and is coming off 5.2 scoreless innings against the Cardinals. He isn’t going to blow you away with strikeout numbers, but his control has been much better in 2023 and has been finding outs. Just find us three in the top half.
I could sit here and list off all the incredible numbers Zac Gallen has put up this season, but I’d rather make a joke about how I usually don’t trust someone who spells Zac without an H or K at the end. On the real, Gallen has been DEATH to Mets hitters in his career, holding them to a .148 average and notching 18 strikeouts in 54 at-bats.
Look for more of the same here tonight. Let’s get six quick ones and cash this NRFI bet.

Oakland Athletics vs. Houston Astros First Inning Bet
We’ve been gifted some value lines in the last couple weeks, but our bets always seemed to be spoiled by some shenanigans. We’re breaking that trend tonight. The books are giving us value on the yes run first inning in A’s-Astros, and we’re not passing it up.
Hunter Brown is 19-7 on NRFI chances this season, which does give some cause for concern. But we’re not really playing this for the A’s side to score a run, so there’s no real love lost with this. The A’s do get a ballpark upgrade here, going on the road to Minute Maid Park. It’s not as if the A’s haven’t had any modicum of success against Brown — they do have almost 50 at-bats against him and are hitting .255. So we could be doing worse here.
The Astros side is where it gets fun. Paul Blackburn might be bringing a 12-5 NRFI record into tonight’s game, but the fella has given us a YRFI in three straight games. Houston is hitting almost .290 against him with SEVEN homers and four doubles. Blackburn has the highest WHIP of his career (1.51), and the Astros are top 10 in walks this season. Given the potent — and patient — top of the Astros order, I think we can almost safely bank on the Astros to plate at LEAST one in the bottom half.
Let’s roll with the yes run first inning in Houston.
