BANG! We won our +259 NRFI parlay on Sunday. Freddy Peralta pulled some voodoo magic to cash the Brewers-Marlins NRFI for us, and the Tigers-A’s no run first inning was a breeze in comparison!
Heading into the final week of the MLB season, we’re 180-145 overall on YRFI/NRFI bets and +34.2 units. We’ve done VERY well this season, but we’re not done yet. As always, be sure to follow me on Twitter, that’s where I give out all of my picks, especially on days I don’t have an article.
For Monday’s slate, it’s a small one, so dialing it back for one day wouldn’t be the worst idea. But we’re going to check out these two yes/no run first inning bets today and see what we have.

Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners First Inning Bet
This should be an absolute BANGER of a game, as the Astros and Mariners are tied for second in the AL West, two games behind the Texas Rangers.
We get a decent pitching matchup to kick off this series with Luis Castillo and Justin Verlander. Castillo is 23-8 on no run first innings this season and is riding a five-game NRFI streak. Against the Astros in his career, he’s held them to a .212 average, a .222 on-base percentage and .375 slugging in 80 at-bats. He’s also rocking a 25% strikeout rate against the Astros (20 strikeouts in 80 at-bats). The total for this game opened at 7, which we absolutely LOVE when looking for a NRFI.
Verlander is 14-11 in his no run first inning chances this season, and he’s clearly not the lockdown ace Verlander that once dominated the league for years. However, that’s not to say this fella can’t get us three outs in the bottom half of the first. What do we know about this Mariners offense? It LOVES to swing and miss. Verlander does have 131 strikeouts in 149.1 innings this season, so he’s still capable of making guys miss — and in four September starts he has 25 strikeouts in 26 innings.
We don’t need an immaculate inning from Verlander, just enough to get the job done and keep the Mariners off the board.

San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants First Inning Bet
Logan Webb gets the start for the Giants on Monday, bringing his 24-8 NRFI record into the game against the Padres. Incredibly, this will be Webb’s first start against San Diego all season, but he has faced them plenty in the past. The Padres have registered 94 at-bats against Webb and have a dreadful slash line of .202/.257/.287. That includes almost a 25% strikeout rate as well, and only one home run allowed (Manny Machado). Plus, he owes us money after blowing our NRFI against Arizona in his last start.
Your 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner, Blake Snell, will be getting us the final three outs we need to cash this NRFI tonight. Obviously, he’s been NAILS this season, rocking a 22-9 no run first inning record. But he’s been DEATH against the Giants in his career to the tune of a .154 average, .254 on-base percentage and .173 slugging in 104 at-bats. He’s piled up 41 strikeouts against Giants hitters, and that includes an eight-strikeout game against them on Sept. 2. If you’re telling me I get the best pitcher in the NL this season against the 23rd-ranked first-inning offense to cash my NRFI ticket, I’m taking that every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
