It’s hump day in MLB with a typical spread-out platter of baseball throughout the day. The beauty of the expanded playoff system has a bunch of teams still in the hunt for that final Wild Card, or at least telling themselves they are. There are a handful of teams that have simply given up, two of them are playing each other in Colorado today, and the Phillies are now tied with the Dodgers for the best record in all of baseball. Kyle Schwarber M/L Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
The Astros are looking to avoid the sweep today at the hands of the Phillies, looking forward to facing Taijuan Walker. Houston holds the narrow lead in the AL West as Seattle took another loss last night. The one thing that worked yesterday for Houston was pitching to Kyle Schwarber, an uneventful 0-for-4 night despite the Phillies winning. It’s going to be hard to keep a good man down tonight despite having Spencer Arrighetti on the hill. The Astros starter does have a high propensity to walk batters — a 10% rate on the year — and Schwarber can draw them up with the best.
Instead of working around Schwarber at the top of the lineup, Houston is going to go right at him like it did last night. Between the fear of a walk or simply his lefty-righty advantage, Schwarber should see some hittable pitches tonight. The Phillies are unstoppable when he goes long, and while a home run will certainly clear 1.5, Schwarber is more than capable of an RBI double at any point of this game.
DraftKings Pick6 Prediction: Kyle Schwarber More Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Yordan Alvarez M/L Than 2.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Did we mention the Phillies are sending Walker to the hill? The Astros will have a little gift in that Walker has been struggling since his return from the IL, and they are desperate to avoid the sweep. Walker is brutal overall and can’t truly afford to pitch around guys in this Astros lineup. Yordan Alvarez is the best hitter on the team and at some point in this game will see some juicy pitches.
Don’t be surprised if it’s in the first at-bat. Seriously, Alvarez is crushing baseballs to the tune of a .408 xwOBA and even more impressive .301 xBA. He’s making solid contact resulting in bases; he’s going to do the same thing again to Walker.
The only viable solution to Alvarez not hitting 2.5 would be getting walked two to three times. Walker isn’t going to strike out Alvarez and stands a better chance intentionally walking him over anything else. With a pennant race and best record still in their grasp, it’s hard to think the Phillies will punt this game.
DraftKings Pick6 Prediction: Yordan Alvarez More Than 2.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
