Dallas Keuchel M/L Than 3.5 Strikeouts
This is a lower number for Dallas Keuchel as the Brewers look to bounce back from a bad loss to the Nationals. Keuchel is making just his fourth start this year, going over the above total in two of those outings. Some of it is the matchup today, some of it is just the lack of overall trust with Kuechel himself. While there are some gettable strikeouts in the Nationals lineup, it’s more a race against the clock to see how long Kuechel can last before the Nats’ bats turn.
Going less than 3.5 Ks for Kuechel is the top play right now on the OddsShopper optimizer. We get a fantastic break in Pick6 against what would be a far more popular play in him going over the total. By countering the field with a +EV play against the market, we set ourselves up right away for success. Kuechel is still struggling with a near 1:1 K to BB rate, and just isn’t dominant enough to throw 5+ innings today.

Tyler Phillips M/L Than 4.5 Strikeouts
Whether or not the Phillies are “punting” this game, one thing we do know – Tyler Phillips is no Zack Wheeler. The Phillies were stopped in their tracks in the series opener against Oakland, so they now send Phillips to get revenge. He’s started just one game this year, a 7 K, 4 inning loss to the Braves. While the strikeouts were certainly impressive, the idea now is how long will Phillips be in tonight’s game – and will it be long enough to hit 5 Ks.
While Oakland is live to irritate Phillips like they did Ranger Suarez last night, the Phillies will look to use more of their pen to stretch out this start. Phillips might go three innings, possibly four, and is pitching to a far weaker unit than what Atlanta parades out to the plate. The A’s dont have a lot of good – or even decent – hitters. That means Phillips doesn’t have to blow everything by batters, he can methodically pitch to contact against Oakland. Good strategy for a win, just not for five strikeouts.
