With the news of Jackson Holliday’s call-up reaching the sportsbooks, it raises the question of how we should bet on him today in his debut.
Is it worth buying Holliday to go over in any statistical category? He has slashed .333/.482/.595 in AAA so far this season, which is impressive, averaged 2.5 total bases per game.
Last season, Holliday put up similar numbers as he worked his way up through Baltimore’s system. His slash line across all divisions was an impressive .321/.440/.501, and he averaged 1.9 total bases per game.
Holliday and the Orioles will take on Boston’s RHP Kutter Crawford today, who has started the season in great form with a 1.62 xERA (94th percentile), much improved from the 3.25 xERA he recorded last season.
Last season, RHHs like Holliday slashed .232/.284/.380 versus Crawford. This season, they’re slashing .174/.240/.174. It’s a small sample, but Holliday won’t have things easy in his MLB debut.
While it’s hard for me to justify getting action on any of Holliday’s overs, I’m intrigued by betting on him to stay under 1.5 total bases for odds of -165 at BetMGM. The line feels generous for a player yet to log his first plate appearance in the Show.
