Best MLB Home Run Picks & Bets for Sunday, September 3
If we sort OddsShopper by OS Rating for all MLB home run props on Sunday, we see these players at the top (at the time of writing): Hunter Goodman (+680 to homer, OS Rating 9), Oswald Peraza (+830, OS Rating 5), Andrew McCutchen (+630, OS Rating 3), Everson Pereira (+600, OS Rating 2).
None of these are the most exciting baseball betting picks on the surface, so let’s see what else we can find on the MLB odds board.
Angels-Athletics Home Run Pick
When: 4:07 p.m. ET
Where: Oakland Coliseum (Oakland)
OddsShopper’s Target: Shohei Ohtani at FanDuel
It’s obviously been a brutal period for the Angels after essentially going all in and then quickly foundering away any chances of making the playoffs. They’ve now all but thrown in the towel, dropping to 64-72 overall this season and tossing aside notable players like Lucas Giolito and Hunter Renfroe as they now look toward 2024 and beyond.
While LA has been a disappointment overall, the same can’t be said for Shohei Ohtani, who has slugged 44 home runs to go with 95 RBIs while keeping his batting average above .300 (.306) on the year. Ohtani won’t be pitching anymore this season as the Angels try to keep him as healthy as possible, but he’s still being trotted out as the DH for the team on most days.
Ohtani’s MLB player props for Sunday are packed with options to consider, but this is a home run article and we’re backing the star to hit one out in this spot. He doesn’t have a splits advantage against Oakland southpaw Kyle Muller, but Muller has been downright terrible in 2023, with a 7.67 ERA and 1.96 WHIP across 63.1 innings of work.
The lefty has also allowed at least one homer in all but three appearances this year, and even if Ohtani doesn’t launch one against Muller, we like his chances of doing so against the Oakland bullpen.
Best MLB Home Run Pick: Shohei Ohtani (+330 at FanDuel)
Orioles-Diamondbacks Home Run Pick
When: 4:10 p.m. ET
Where: Chase Field (Arizona)
OddsShopper’s Target: Corbin Carroll at DraftKings
It’s been an amazing season for the Orioles, who enter Sunday afternoon’s game against Arizona with an 84-51 overall record and 42-25 mark away from home.
MLB betting lines have the Diamondbacks favored at approximately -145 to win on the moneyline. They’ll trot out ace Zac Gallen, who’s 14-6 with a 3.32 ERA on the year, with the Orioles set to counter with Jack Flaherty (8-8, 4.73 ERA), a midseason pickup who started the year with St. Louis.
Corbin Carroll is expected to bat leadoff for Arizona and gets the split advantage on the wildly inconsistent Flaherty, who as we know can give up hard contact in bunches. On the year Carroll owns a .281 batting average with 23 home runs, 41 stolen bases and 65 RBIs, with 19 of those long balls coming against righties.
If we look through Carroll’s odds, bets and player props on OddsShopper for Sunday’s baseball action, we see his home run prop hovering around +550 depending on the book. We like that number in a favorable matchup with a hit-or-miss Flaherty.
Best MLB Home Run Pick: Corbin Carroll (+550 at DraftKings)
