MLB Odds: Giants-Yankees Odds Favor New York to Open 2023 Campaign
The Yankees start the season as -170 favorites over the Giants (+145) at DraftKings. Those odds give the Yankees about a 60% implied odds of winning their first game. To do so, they’ll have to put up runs against the Giants ace Logan Webb.
The over/under for the game is 7.5 runs which slight juice to the under (-120). Team totals, game and MLB player props have yet to be released. Expect the Yankees to have a team total around 3.6-7 runs in the game.
When the Yankees take the field, they will do so with a new shortstop. Anthony Volpe, who is one of the top prospects in the organization will man the position for the Bronx Bombers. Volpe’s Rookie of the Year odds soared after it was announced that he would make the big league club out of Spring Training.
He and Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge are set to lead one of the top lineups in Major League Baseball. Judge is coming off a historic campaign in which he set the MLB homerun record. It earned him the third highest contract in baseball history. The next highest bidder after the Yankees was his hometown San Francisco Giants. Judge, who is from Northern California, can show the Giants what they missed out on Opening Day.
For Volpe and Judge to have success, they will have to score off one of the most consistent starting pitchers in baseball. Logan Webb posted a 2.90 ERA last season, with remarkably similar splits at home and way. Webb’s ERA was 2.91 at home and 2.89 on the road. His Achilles hill was his daytime split, he posted a 3.44 ERA in the daytime across 104 and 2/3 IP. That said, the weather in New York won’t be as warm and could liken the conditions to night baseball.
