Phillies vs. Dodgers MLB Odds: Bryce Harper’s Return Highlights Series (May 2)

The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers were two of the best teams in 2022. Los Angeles is a perennial favorite, and found success in the post season. However, it pales in comparison to the Phillies who landed their first World Series berth since 2009. But tomorrow’s Phillies-Dodgers game is more than a mundane May matchup between strong baseball teams. Tuesday marks two returns: Trea Turner returns to Los Angeles against his former team and Bryce Harper will re-join the Phillies’ lineup. Luckily, the Phillies-Dodgers MLB odds are already out.

Treat Turner and Bruce Harper will certainly be the story in the Phillies-Dodgers game. But don’t let that distract you from the pitching matchup. SP Matt Strahm is having one of the best months of his career for the Phillies. The thirty-one year old has a 2:42 ERA, striking out 31 batters over 22.1 innings. Strahm pitched in relief last year for the Boston Red Sox. The last time he started more than one game in a season was 2016 when he took the hill sixteen times for the San Diego Padres.

Despite Strahm’s hot start it isn’t enough for early MLB odds to give a bump to the Phillies. They’re a +154 underdog in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Additionally, one of the most exciting stories in this game is the return of Bryce Harper. He was originally expected to be out until the All-Star break after suffering an elbow injury before the season began. Harper has now been cleared to play on Tuesday and should be set to man the middle of the Phillies lineup.

Julio Urias will try to mitigate Harper’s impact. Urias, a lefty, has been a mainstay in the Dodger’s rotation for several years. The now veteran SP doesn’t strike out batters at a high rate, but he has proven that he can consistently get outs and provide the Dodger’s pitching staff with outings that go deep into games.

Bettors should continue to look at the lines as they move throughout the night and tomorrow leading up to first pitch. OddsShopper’s tools will update any time the market moves and rank the softest Blue Jays-Red Sox lines that present the best ROI.
