Francisco Lindor H/L Than 1.5 Total Bases
If only the New York Mets could match the heat provided by their starting shortstop over the past two weeks. Lindor’s 11-game hit streak came to an end last night, but he was a constant threat during this stretch — even with six of those 11 games seeing just one hit. He’ll turn around tonight to face a hard throwing Nationals starter in MacKenzie Gore. Call it a small sample size, but Lindor is hitless in all eight of his career appearances against Gore.
Sure, he might figure it out tonight, but that is unlikely with how dominant Gore has been this year, especially from a metric standpoint. Lindor is now facing a pitcher he’s yet to hit who is actually throwing better coming into this specific game. There is little help around Lindor to help diffuse anything to his advantage, so once again, he has to overcome a 29.1% strikeout rate and .300 xwOBA.
The best part about all of this is the break we get against the market. The MLB pick’em tool identifies a 6.1% edge with the -122 implied odds beating the -140 true odds. We did absolutely zero work, as the advanced algorithm scoured through multiple markets to find this spot.
Underdog Fantasy Pick’em Prediction: Francisco Lindor LOWER Than 1.5 Total Bases
Jorge Soler H/L Than 1.5 Total Bases
We get another play that beats the market price, even though it’s not as juicy as the above play. Still, less than 1.5 total bases will be the more appealing route here with Soler as the Giants are in Arizona. While the Giants are expected to use this game as a bullpen throwaway, the snakes will hold their breath with Ryne Nelson.
It’s true, Nelson isn’t great. His numbers against the Giants are somehow better than normal — which are pretty bad overall. His metrics match the surface stats, so there are little surprises with Nelson — especially since he appears fully healthy after a minor stint on the IL.
OK, so Soler is going to smash tonight, right? Not so fast. Soler isn’t seeing the ball well and has little advantage against a struggling pitcher, even of Nelson’s poor ilk. Soler has one of the lowest xBA on the team as an everyday player hitting just .235 on the year. His 22.7% strikeout rate is reaching an uncomfortable level, as this isn’t anywhere near a get-right opportunity.
This is a 3.2% EV edge that we found thanks to the MLB pick’em tool. We get a break because of the -122 implied odds beating the -131 true odds. We stay lower than 1.5 total bases for Soler.
