Underdog Fantasy Pick’em Predictions Today: Attack This Niche Ryan McMahon Market (July 1)

There are just three games on one of the lightest baseball days of the year. That won’t stop us from mining value to provide you another 3x winner from Underdog. There should be plenty of bodies in the stands up north as the Blue Jays host the Astros on Canada Day. That’s followed by the Mets and Nationals in Washington, D.C. The nightcap features what should be a high-scoring game at Coors field between the Brewers and Rockies. Now let’s get to the MLB Underdog Fantasy pick’em predictions for Monday!

It’s a simple question at Underdog Fantasy: Choose if a player will finish higher or lower their current projection. Build anywhere from two to six picks. Here are the top two plays from Underdog — getting 3x back on a winning entry. OddsShopper has an Underdog Fantasy optimizer tool designed to help you build winning entries.

David Peterson H/L Than 17.5 Total Outs

Things cooled off a bit for the New York Mets against the Houston Astros. Now David Peterson tries to add some balance taking on the Nationals. This is a road start for Peterson, and he’s hoping to replicate hitting 18 outs in each of his prior two starts away from home. Peterson clearly pitched above his numbers on both occasions — one of those in the same ballpark as today. The difference is the Mets may not get the same run support against MacKenzie Gore — they faced D.J. Herz last time.

Peterson is struggling with some important numbers, be it his 16.5% strikeout rate or .296 xBA — among others. Eddie Rosario and Jesse Winker offer a couple of spots for strikeouts, but mostly Peterson is going to have to pitch to contact against this Nationals lineup. It’s also the second time seeing him for Washington, which isn’t necessarily a good thing for a bad to mediocre pitcher.

Underdog Fantasy Pick’em Prediction: David Peterson Lower than 17.5 Total Outs

Ryan McMahon H/L Than 0.5 Singles

We gain a slight edge to the market thanks to the Underdog Fantasy optimizer tool. Ryan McMahon can do whatever he wants with the ball; just make sure he gets past first base. It’s a specific market where we are targeting the Rockies’ best power hitter — at least by metrics — to go without a one-bagger.

McMahon is tearing the cover off the baseball with a 93.5 exit velocity and 53.5 hard-hit rate on the year. He’s striking out a bunch — which also helps us tonight — with a team-leading 28.4% strikeout rate. The game is in Coors Field, so if he gets a hold of one, there’s a likelier chance it will go for extra bases than not. We will certainly take an 0-for-4 night, but it is not necessary to cash this pick.

Bryse Wilson isn’t the best arm on the Brewers, but he’s enough to help. Again, we don’t need anything but zero singles when the night is done. McMahon might take Wilson yard twice — don’t bet that — but he won’t slap away a single.
