Yankees-Red Sox MLB Betting Odds for Sunday’s Doubleheader (June 18)

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees were supposed to square off on Saturday evening, but they’ll now have to play a split doubleheader on Sunday. Bad weather in Boston forced the Saturday game’s postponement. Let’s dive into the betting odds for the Red Sox-Yankees doubleheader on Sunday, June 18, the second game of which is still scheduled for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball slate.

Yankees-Red Sox MLB Betting Odds for Sunday Doubleheader | June 18

Game 1 Odds: New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox | 1:30 p.m. ET
Doubleheader Odds via Caesars Sportsbook
Yankees: -115 | Red Sox: -105
Over 9: -105 | Under 9: -115

Before Saturday’s action was postponed, the Boston Red Sox were trading as the favorite at odds of -135 (57.5%) via Caesars Sportsbook. They were scheduled to start RHP Brayan Bello (3-4), but now all signs point to Bello starting in primetime instead. The Yankees were scheduled to start RHP Clarke Schmidt (2-6), and he is likely to take the mound as scheduled. Boston should remain the favorite for this game once the markets re-open. I’ve got action on a player prop and home run pick for this game designed to take advantage of Schmidt and Fenway Park, and if those markets re-open at similar numbers on Sunday, they’ll still have some value.

Boston is yet to make an announcement about Sunday’s starting pitchers, and the markets remain shut down as of publication because of this reality. It wouldn’t be surprising to see LHP James Paxton (2-1) get the nod early instead of Bello. Paxton’s 3.09 ERA and 3.34 xERA are better than Bello’s 3.78 ERA and 4.40 xERA. Both Boston pitchers have performed better in those metrics than Schmidt (4.33 ERA, 4.43 xERA).

Editor’s Note: The Boston Red Sox will start RHP Kaleb Ort (1-0) in Game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader. The Red Sox are now underdogs with the Yankees listed at -115 (53.5%) on the moneyline

Game 2 Odds: New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox | 7 p.m. ET on ESPN
Doubleheader Odds via Caesars Sportsbook
Yankees: +118 | Red Sox: -140
Over 9: -120 | Under 9: +100

The possible pitching swap means these odds are very much subject to change, but these odds are the most recent ones for Sunday’s game that were available, per ESPN. The Yankees were scheduled to start RHP Luis Severino (0-1) and will likely follow through with that choice. Severino owns a bloated 6.48 ERA and an equally awful 6.35 xERA as he has struggled in his return from injury. His struggles mean that the Red Sox are likely to be favored regardless of which pitcher they put on the mound.

Boston’s decision at pitcher is made all the more difficult by the injury to another one of their starters, RHP Tanner Houck, who took a line drive to the face on Friday. He went to the hospital and received stitches in his face after the injury. With Houck potentially sidelined for his next start, manager Alex Cora may need to plan ahead when choosing who to deploy on Sunday, which could lead him to start someone other than Paxton or Bello.

Editor’s Note: Bello will start Game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader. The Red Sox remain favored but now by odds of –140 (58.3%).
