YRFI & NRFI Bets Today: No & Yes Run First Inning Picks for Friday, May 31

Make it back-to-back cashes for us on our YRFI/NRFI bets! The Cody Bellinger homer in the top of the first sent us right back to Cash City, and we’re looking to extend our visit to three days with our NRFI bet for today. The no run first inning picks for Friday, May 31, look a bit dicey, outside of one spot that I really like, so we’re dialing it back to one pick for a third day in a row. We’re being a bit selective of late, and it’s fattened our pockets a little, so let’s keep plumpin’ these babies up.

Sometimes, the NRFI slates get a little goofy based on matchups; and sometimes based on books being scared to hang lines with any semblance of value. Today is a combo of both. However, DraftKings does have a boost package where it is giving a pair of 50% profit boosts on any MLB bets. This Angels-Mariners no run first inning bet would be an ideal candidate, considering they’re hanging the NRFI at -135, which is right at the cutoff of our value range.

Here’s what we know about this Angels-Mariners matchup tonight:

  • 7.5 run total
  • Jose Soriano pitches for LA
  • Bryan Woo pitches for Seattle
  • The books juiced this NRFI pretty hard

So, they’re thinking this one is going to end with the NRFI bet cashing, and, spoiler, so do I. And if you use that 50% profit boost, it jumps it to +111 odds, which is, as Borat says, “Verrry niiiice.”

Bryan Woo has made only four starts this season since returning from injury, but is a perfect 4-0 on NRFIs, and that includes cashing one IN YANKEE STADIUM. That shouldn’t be overlooked.

Woo is another one of those Mariners archetypes that refuses to walk batters (2.5% walk rate) and always finds ways to avoid guys barreling him up.

The Angels are a bottom 10 offense against right-handed pitching this season with a nearly 24% strikeout rate. While Woo isn’t a HUGE strikeout guy, any boost in Ks tonight would be a feather in his cap for sure.

Opposing him is one of my biggest man crushes of the 2024 MLB season — Jose Soriano. How can you not love a guy who has an average fastball velo of 99.1 … and he’s a STARTER!

The Mariners strikeout against right-handed pitching this season is higher than a college kid at a Dave Matthews concert in the ’90s. And that’s going to be a HUGE help to Soriano tonight, who is only sporting a nearly 24% strikeout rate this season, but with his stuff, he’s liable to strikeout the side in the first with the way the Mariners swing and miss.

Soriano started off somewhat shaky in his NRFI chances this season, going 2-2, but since then, he’s ripped off a 7-0 run on NRFIs and is now 9-2 overall on his no run first inning chances.

It seems he’s figured a way to harness his nasty fastball-sinker combo — at least in the first inning — and that’s all we really need.

Don’t forget to use that boost on DraftKings to pump up the odds on this one, and let’s get back to the window for the third straight day.
