Saturday night’s UFC 290 pay-per-view was arguably the best card of the year. Nearly every fight was a banger, including the main event between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez. At 41- years old, Holly Holm has become a UFC mainstay. She rarely lights up a card, but she has been one of the steadiest hands in the UFC Women’s Bantamweight division. Holm won her last fight against Yana Santos by unanimous decision. She lost Ketlen Viera prior to that bout, after beating Irene Aldana and Raquel Pennington.
Needless to say, it has been an up-and-down run for Holm. Before the aforementioned fights she held the women’s title, which she dropped to Amanda Nunes in July of 2016. It has been two years since she dropped the title, and Nunes has recently retired. It leaves Holm with a shot to regain the mantle in the division if she performs well. There’s a lot to be said if someone her age can reach that level.
Marya Buena Silva will look to stand in here way. The Holm-Buena Silva match has the latter as a +145 underdog (Holm is a -170 favorite on DraftKings), but Buena-Silva’s recent record is impressive. Buena Silva has won three straight fights, the last two by submission. Her last loss was against the formidable Manon Fiorot by decision in October of 2021.
The Holly Holm-Mayra Buena Silva UFC odds are likely to move from their initial opening, but regardless, this should be a relatively close bout. The full UFC fight night card has thirteen matches with many others that are close on the UFC odds board. The biggest favorite on the card is Azat Maksum at -435 who takes on Tyson Nam (+350). No other fighter has an implied win probability north of 69%.
