Just about every high-profile Miami player is injured right now save for Adebayo, Terry Rozier and Duncan Robinson. Tyler Herro, Nikola Jovic and Kevin Love are out, and Jimmy Butler is questionable after missing Sunday’s game.
In theory, should Butler miss, Adebayo would take on a lot the offensive load, right? He’s a good passer from the post and a capable lead option from time to time when called upon, so naturally it would be him as at least one of Miami’s lead distributors against the 76ers today.
You’d think so, wouldn’t you? Well, yesterday Adebayo only took 13 shots and distributed three assists (three turnovers) in 38 minutes with all of those same guys out, including Butler. Rozier led the team in assists with nine (and was also a +20). Instead, Adebayo was a classic big — grabbing rebounds (17), playing defense and only taking a handful of shots.
Sure, that was one game, but it goes to show that Adebayo is not the alpha playmaker that perhaps his reputation suggests. Rozier and Jaime Jaquez Jr. are doing a lot of this work when Butler misses, and OddsShopper feels the same will happen tonight.
