Celtics-Knicks Player Prop: Best Bet for Jrue Holiday

General manager Brad Stevens finally pulled the trigger. He bought in veterans Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to push the Celtics past the finish line. After an NBA Finals loss in 2021 and a Game 7 loss to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the Celtics looked poised to do the darn thing. FanDuel Sportsbook has the Celtics listed as favorites to win the NBA Finals at +370. They’ll once again be headlined by MVP candidate Jayson Tatum, and he should take on a much bigger playmaking role starting tonight — which will limit Holiday’s playmaking ability.

Holiday is going from one Eastern Conference powerhouse to another. His tenure in Milwaukee was as successful as one can be, but the Bucks made the push to add Damian Lillard to co-star Giannis Antetokounmpo and challenge the Celtics in what many presume to be a two-team race in the East. The difference between the Bucks last season and the Celtics this season is that Holiday was leaned upon, especially with Khris Middleton sidelined, to score and facilitate. Now in Boston, the starting lineup is loaded with players who can create their own shot. Jaylen Brown will get his, while I’m sure Porzingis will get plenty of looks in the post and pick and roll with Tatum.

The matchup against the Knicks is not one that over bettors will be thrilled about. Celtics-Knicks has one of the lowest totals on the slate, as both teams are defensive-minded and played at two of the 10 lowest paces in basketball last season. Holiday will most likely get the Jalen Brunson assignment, who is a free-throw merchant and can cause Holiday to get into foul trouble. Brunson ranked just outside the top 20 in free throws attempted per game last season.

BetMGM is coming in with a price 17 cents better than FanDuel and 25 cents better than DraftKings. OddsShopper’s tools have distinguished the true odds to be upwards of -148 and a 60% win expectancy. For reference, if you have a $ 1,000 bankroll, OddsShopper tools suggest laying a $67 wager on Holiday under 7.5 assists.
