Best Kings-Clippers Player Prop: Back Russell Westbrook in L.A. (February 24)

For better or worse, the Los Angeles Clippers have brought in Russell Westbrook as their point guard. Although the much-maligned Westbrook has struggled as a shooter this year, bettors can find some contrarian value on this NBA player prop for tonight’s Kings-Clippers game. Best Kings-Clippers NBA Player Prop | Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook Prop O/U 1.5 3-Pointers

For all the hate Russell Westbrook has gotten as a perimeter shooter, “Westbrick” still averaged 1.2 3-pointers per game with the Los Angeles Lakers this year. He sunk at least a pair of them in 22 of his 52 appearances (42.3%), including all three of his games against the Sacramento Kings. He shot 4-for-7, 2-for-5 and 2-for-5 in their three meetings.

Because the Clippers have found success without a true point guard, adding Westbrook shouldn’t change the offense that dramatically. Bettors should still expect Paul George and Kawhi Leonard to do plenty of ball-handling, leaving Westbrook in a bit more of an off-ball role. That’s how the Clippers used Terance Mann, their starting point guard before Westbrook, and Mann got plenty of open looks from the perimeter. Mann averaged 1.5 3-pointers per game since entering the starting five for good in mid-January.

This matchup is a great spot for Westbrook for a number of reasons. Not only has he cooked the Kings from the perimeter, but so have many other point guards this season. The Kings have allowed the fourth-most 3-pointers to the position on the year (3.1) and the second-most through the last 15 games (3.7). Portland’s Ryan Arcidiacono just shot 3-for-5 against them as a starter last night. That gets into the other reason why I like this matchup — Sacramento is on the wrong end of a back-to-back. They are 6-3 to the over when playing without rest.

Although it’s unclear what role Russell Westbrook will play for the Clippers, bettors can still get plenty of edge on this NBA player prop. Westbrook has hit the over in his last three games against Sacramento and is averaging 1.8 3-pointers per game when lined up against De’Aaron Fox in his career.
