Best Kings-Spurs Player Prop: Will Trey Lyles Score off the Bench? (February 1)

Last year, the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs were fringe play-in teams in the Western Conference. They have taken two very different directions since then, and now the Kings rank second-best in the conference while the Spurs rank second-worst. Bettors hunting for value on tonight’s Kings-Spurs action should tail this NBA player prop at DraftKings — we’re getting enough value on the Trey Lyles player prop markets. Best Kings-Spurs NBA Player Prop | Trey Lyles

Trey Lyles Prop O/U 7.5 Points

Journeyman forward Trey Lyles has spent time with the Spurs, Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons after getting selected 12th overall in 2015. He now finds himself with a decent role off the bench for the Sacramento Kings. Lyles has averaged 17.7 minutes per game for them in January, which he has parlayed into 9.5 points per game. That creates just enough value relative to the market’s number to warrant backing his over.

Lyles should benefit from tonight’s matchup. The forward has faced the Spurs twice already this year and is averaging 13 points per game against them. He scored 14 in a home matchup in November and 12 in a road matchup in mid-January. Lyles tends to see extra usage in wins, as he averages 17.4 minutes and 8.6 points per game when the Kings come out ahead. Sacramento is a 7.5-point road favorite and easily dispatched San Antonio by double digits in their two prior meetings.

Further, the Spurs have struggled to stop opposing power forwards this year. Their defense can’t defend the interior  — they have allowed the most made shots per game in the restricted area per game (20.6) and the most points in the paint per game (55.4). Power forwards are averaging an NBA-high 23.8 points per game when facing the Spurs. Although Lyles doesn’t play a high-volume role, he’ll benefit from San Antonio’s impotent defense.

Not many books will take action on Lyles’ player props. DraftKings Sportsbook is the lone exception at the moment. With the line set to 7.5 and the book choosing not to stack the juice on either side, bettors can get a decent deal on Lyles at -115. Users yet to register at DraftKings can secure $200 in bonus bets after placing a $5 wager!
