Best NBA Bets Today: Picks, Plays and More (January 4)

Two games, one side and one total. Should be easy enough. Of course, we come in struggling off an 0-2 night but that’s just extra motivation to sweep the board, even if it’s a two-game board! The lowly Spurs host the Bucks – who may sit everyone, and the Warriors host the Nuggets in the late game. Just because the slate is short doesn’t mean we can’t find value, especially with the help of OddsShopper. Here are the best bets for tonight’s NBA action.

Best NBA Side Bet: Bucks-Spurs

Khris Middleton is already out and we expect more to follow. The Bucks will miss one of their best players as he sits out to rest, something Giannis Antentekoumpo and others would enjoy too. Milwaukee is clearly the better team here fully equipped to hammer the San Antonio Spurs in any arena. But not having a full roster makes this 9.5 point line super appealing especially before anyone else gets ruled out of the game. The Bucks are also coming in off a track meet with the Pacers last night, giving up 142 points in the loss.

This is a perfect game to rest starters it just happens to be on a two game slate in prime time. The NBA has pushed teams to eliminate just sitting guys in games like this, but it’s not like the Spurs don’t have star power of their own. Victor Wembenyana is good enough to keep his team in this game without a couple of big name Bucks on the floor. Expect the Spurs to show up and play hard on a stage they may rarely see in the future.

This is best played with Giannis sitting out, something that’s still a real possibility at the time of writing this. Get in now at +9.5 thanks to OddsShopper – some books are already down to 8.5.

Best NBA Total Bet: Nuggets-Warriors O/U 235

The numbers are essentially swapped when looking at the O/U to Denver on the road and Golden State at home. The Nuggets are 7-11 to the UNDER in 18 games on the road, where the Warriors have hit 11-7 to the OVER at home. Denver is interrupting a six game stretch at home, playing four and then two following tonight. It’s one thing to get up for the old Warriors but this Golden State team doesn’t pose nearly as much of a threat.

The Nuggets should be at full strength with Reggie Jackson probable to play, so expect Denver to roll a little deeper in this solo road game for the week. Golden State is about league average when it comes to scoring and giving up 116 points per game, but they are also in the middle of a home stretch – seven games to be exact. This one sits more in the middle of their home stand which is easier to get a little too comfortable, even against a powerhouse like the Nuggets.

This is a rematch from Christmas Day when Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets got the better of the Warriors in Denver. Despite Jokic not having the best night from the floor, all five starters finished in double figures. Even with that balanced effort the game went under tonight’s current total, expect that to happen again. OddsShopper found the best total at 235 on FanDuel.
