It’s been a weird series for Derrick White. After averaging 15.2 points and 5.2 assists per game in the regular season (and 22.4 and 3.2 against the Miami Heat), White is now averaging 13 and four this series with just one game over 10 points. White is now trading for +135 at BetMGM to stay under 3.5 assists, which is great deal relative to the rest of the market. Although White is averaging four assists per game this series, he stayed under the 3.5 in his last two games. With Donovan Mitchell expected to miss this one, Boston could win in a blowout, and White could play fewer minutes as a result. He logged just 30 in Game 4.
For all their flaws, the Cavs rank fourth in defensive rating (109.5). Their slow pace (94.1) should also help White stay under this number. The Celtics don’t need a big game from White to win this game. Fading him in the assist column for this price is sharp.
Leg #2: Isaiah Joe u1.5 3PT
The Thunder have enough solid role players where they don’t have to guarantee them any minutes. Josh Giddey has remained in the starting five despite averaging less than 20 minutes per game all series. Isaiah Joe just played 15 in Game 4 and scored zero points.
Replacing Joe and Giddey have been Cason Wallace and Aaron Wiggins. While it’s not guaranteed that those two continue to play at a high level, Joe attempted more than three 3-pointers just once all series, so he’ll need to be close to perfect on his attempts. Let’s fade him as a sharpshooter tonight.
