Best NBA Player Prop: Ivica Zubac Will Feel Mason Plumlee’s Impact (February 14)

To find the best NBA player prop today, we look to a matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors, where Ivica Zubac comes into focus. The Clippers just added another center, Mason Plumlee, at the trade deadline. As a result, this Ivica Zubac player prop stands out as my lock tonight.

Ivica Zubac O/U 9.5 Rebounds

The Los Angeles Clippers made some interesting moves at the trade deadline. They shipped off Reggie Jackson and John Wall while adding Bones Hyland and Eric Gordon for next to nothing. More importantly, they also brought in Mason Plumlee from the Charlotte Hornets.

Plumlee had worked as Charlotte’s starting center for years, so this move indicates the Clippers are at least somewhat iffy about current starting center Ivica Zubac. The move doesn’t mean Plumlee will immediately take over — I find that rather unlikely — or that the two will work in a 50-50 timeshare. However, Plumlee’s arrival will cut into Zubac’s workload.

Plumlee should play at least 18-to-20 minutes right from the get-go, which means the books aren’t nearly as concerned about Zubac’s minutes as I am based on his rebounding total of 9.5 with minimal juice on the under. Zubac averages a hair over 29.2 minutes and 10.2 rebounds per game, but under these new circumstances, 28 minutes feels like a best-case scenario for Zubac.

Further, tonight presents a serious minutes floor for Zubac. The Clippers will face the Warriors, and Golden State can always just go small. In fact, in their only matchup to date this season, Zubac saw just 26 minutes of floor time and grabbed only four rebounds. Because of the number of ways Zubac’s playing time could be limited in this spot, shorting his 9.5 rebound line is my favorite NBA player prop on the board for Tuesday’s slate.
