Best Spurs-Hornets Player Prop: Will Mark Williams Defend the Rim? (February 15)

The Charlotte Hornets and San Antonio Spurs have little left to play before aside from the first overall pick. However, they’ll face each other for the second time this year on Wednesday. Bettors hunting for value on Wednesday’s Spurs-Hornets game should tail this NBA player prop at DraftKings — the book has left too much value on the Mark Williams player prop markets. Best Spurs-Hornets NBA Player Prop | Mark Williams

Mark Williams Prop O/U 1.5 Blocks

The Charlotte Hornets moved on from center Mason Plumlee at the trade deadline, leaving rookie Mark Williams to fill in for him. Williams has responded by averaging 10.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game as a starter while playing 27.3 minutes. He recorded those numbers against the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks — all fall stiffer competition than the lowly Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs made a big move of their own at the trade deadline. They also shipped off their center, Jakob Poeltl, and opted to replace him in the rotation with his backup. The Spurs also remain without Tre Jones due to injury, leaving them with a roster full of young, athletic guys who depend on interior scoring — the perfect recipe for blocks. Unsurprisingly, the Spurs have allowed their opponents to swat 5.7 shots per game over the last three outings, which ranks 26th.

Opposing big men have caused problems for the Spurs in the paint. On Monday, Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen swatted three shots. Evan Mobley got two of his own. Atlanta’s Clint Capela and John Collins combined for five blocks against them on Saturday, and the night before, Detroit’s Jalen Duren swatted a monstrous four shots. Even though Williams lacks the experience of some of those big men, Charlotte’s smaller lineup leaves him as the likeliest shot-blocker among the starting five by a wide margin.

The books have been letting themselves get cooked by bettors targeting block props against the Spurs. Pricing Williams’ over at only +120, especially considering the talented rookie has swatted at least two shots in four of his last five games, isn’t smart. Bettors can head to DraftKings Sportsbook for the best price on the market. New users can score $150 in bonus bets after winning a $5 wager!
