Best Spurs-Trail Blazers Player Prop: Will Jusuf Nurkic Dominate in the Paint?

Neither the San Antonio Spurs nor the Portland Trail Blazers look like threats to win the Western Conference, but Portland can at least make the play-in tournament. Bettors looking to score some value on Monday’s late games should tail this Spurs-Trail Blazers NBA player prop because enough value remains on the Jusuf Nurkic prop markets. Best Spurs-Trail Blazers NBA Player Prop | Jusuf Nurkic

Jusuf Nurkic Prop O/U 14.5 Points

The San Antonio Spurs have given up on defending the paint this season. They have allowed the most points in the paint per game (55.5) and the second-most over the last seven games (58.9). San Antonio’s defense struggles mightily in the restricted area, as the Spurs have allowed the most made shots per game from that part of the floor (20.7).

Unsurprisingly, San Antonio’s inability to protect the rim has corresponded to strong showings from opposing big men. The Spurs have allowed the sixth-most points per game to centers on the season (24.1). Nicolas Claxton just scored 15 against them last Tuesday. Opposing centers have recorded double-digit points in six of San Antonio’s last seven games, including Claxton, Steven Adams (twice) and Kevon Looney — not exactly high-volume shooters.

Jusuf Nurkic plays a much larger role in Portland’s offense than most centers the Spurs have faced of late. Nurkic is averaging 14 points per game this year and trails only Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant in usage. Nurkic scored exactly 15 points in his last matchup with San Antonio, a road game in which he played 30 minutes, and nine in his earlier home stand in which he played 15 after returning from injury. That gives him an average of 19.1 points per 36 minutes against the Spurs.

Bettors can get Nurkic at a bit of a discount because of his poor recent play. The Blazers left him on the floor for only 16 minutes in last night’s game against the Lakers. However, that actually may bode well for his usage tonight — he won’t feel the effects of a back-to-back as much as his teammates will. Pinnacle and DraftKings both have the juice for the over set to -113 or higher, but FanDuel Sportsbook has it at -104. Bettors should head there for the best deal. Those who are new to FanDuel can secure $150 in bonus bets with the placement of a $5 wager!
