The superstar is a mere 36 points away from passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and could easily do so in either game. But as the NBA’s eyes are on James, my eyes will be on his teammate, point guard Dennis Schröder.
Schröder returned to the Lakers after betting on himself and losing. But the German journeyman has played more than acceptably in Los Angeles’ rotation this year and is averaging 4.1 assists per. That number jumps to a whopping 7 when he starts alongside Anthony Davis. Schröder has averaged a steady 5.7 assists per game since Davis’ initial return from injury as well. He ranks third on the Lakers in potential assists per game through that span (9.7), a marked uptick from his season average (7.5). Schröder could even play extra minutes with Russell Westbrook involved in trade discussions.

The Oklahoma City Thunder, who are playing on the wrong end of a back-to-back set, make for a juicy target. The total sits at a lofty 239 points. The Thunder have allowed the 15th-most assists per game (25.5) but the second-most through their last three contests (30.7) and the sixth-most to point guards over the last seven games (9.7). Jordan Poole just dished out 12 assists against them last night. Stephen Curry dished out 12 of his own last Monday. Darius Garland dished out 13 two Fridays ago.
