Unfortunately, Gobert has often left them vulnerable to big men on the perimeter. The Timberwolves have allowed the second-most 3-pointers per game to centers (1.2) on the year. Their perimeter defense also ranks fourth in 3-pointers allowed from above the break per game (9.7).
Nikola Jokic is no stranger to Gobert’s limitations. In fact, he often exploits them. The two have met in 20 games, and Jokic has made at least one 3-pointer in all seven of his matchups against Gobert since the bubble. He is averaging 2.4 3-pointers per game through that stretch. Although most of those meetings came when Gobert was still a member of the Utah Jazz, Jokic shot 1-for-3 from deep against the Gobert-led Timberwolves back in January.

Jokic is a very deliberate player and only takes smart shots. As a result, he averages only 0.9 3-pointers on 2.3 attempts per game. While he is converting an efficient 38.5% of his attempts this year, he is also attempting 1.6 fewer 3-pointers per game than last season. The return of Jamal Murray explains that downtick, but with Murray downgraded to questionable on Tuesday, Jokic may need to step up as a scorer. Jokic has made at least one 3-pointer in six of the seven games he has played without Murray this year.
