Brandon Ingram has shot reasonably well against the Los Angeles Clippers since joining the New Orleans Pelicans back in 2019. However, his shooting splits of 48/43/87 don’t tell the full story: he is averaging only 22.7 actual points per game against them on 17.1 shot attempts. That’s down from the 23.7 points on 18.1 shots Ingram has averaged for the Pelicans since his arrival.
The books are taking action on Ingram’s points tonight at 24.5, which is a point higher than where I would have set this line. Ingram is averaging just 24 points per game this year. While that does tick up to 25.2 without C.J. McCollum, point guard Jose Alvarado has returned to the mix as of two games ago and can vulture some usage.
Ingram’s shot profile and splits point to value on the under. As far as his splits go, Ingram’s shooting splits have cratered from 54/39/81 at home to 44/17/78 on the road this year. While he has still averaged 24 points per game in both locations, that’s largely been a function of workload: Ingram has played 35.5 minutes per road game but 32.2 minutes per home game.
Ingram’s shot profile is also a concern here. He leads the NBA in mid-range shots made per game (3.3), but the Clippers’ defense coughs up the sixth-fewest mid-range makes per game (3.8).
Ingram’s road volume is somewhat concerning to me, but with the Pelicans in the middle of a road trip and on the front end of a back-to-back set, he could see a lighter workload tonight. The Pelicans are listed as a five-point underdog in this spot, and Ingram is averaging just 23.8 points per game in losses after averaging just 22.4 in them last year.
