Devin Booker Injury Update: Is Phoenix’s Star Playing Tonight?

Devin Booker Injury Update

The Phoenix Suns won’t have their new Big Three on the floor against the Golden State Warriors. Durant is active, Beal is out, so what’s up with Booker? The superstar guard has been dealing with a toe injury that popped up sometime during the weekend. He was a limited participant in both Sunday and Monday’s practice.

Although it’s somewhat encouraging that Booker was able to get reps in on Sunday and Monday, Beal was able to get some in, too, but he is “unlikely to play,” per the Athletic’s Shams Charania. Booker is “50-50” but intends to warm up this evening. Time will tell whether he’ll make it into the starting five.

These developments come after numerous quotes from Suns head coach Frank Vogel that downplayed the injuries. On Sunday, Vogel said both players “should be fine.” On Monday, he said he was “hopeful” that both players would be active.

Is Devin Booker Playing for Phoenix Tonight?

So is Devin Booker playing tonight? Dear reader, I have absolutely no idea. Vogel’s and Beals’ comments made me optimistic enough about Phoenix, especially with Draymond Green then unlikely to play, that I put some action down on the Suns. Now I’m unsure if Vogel was keeping his cards close to his chest or if the decision to sit Beal came from above him.

The NBA betting markets are unsure about what exactly is going on here as well. The Suns were trading as a 1-point underdog on Monday morning. They were quickly bid down to a 1-point favorite early on Monday afternoon after Green was ruled out. The line flipped back after Beal and Booker were ruled questionable, and now the Suns are a 3.5-point dog.

The Suns are on a two-game road trip with two matchups against big-market Western Conference teams. They’ll play the Warriors tonight and the Lakers on Thursday. Keep a close eye on Phoenix’s injury report throughout the week — and a close eye on Shams’ Twitter page.
