Jaylen Brown Prop Bettors Suffer Brutal Bad Beat in Game 5

Jaylen Brown prop bets were immensely popular in the lead-up to the Game 5 between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night. Brown over 24.5 points (-110 at BetMGM) was the most bet player prop in the game, with 99% of bets coming in on the over. The star shooting guard finished just under the mark during the disappointing loss, setting up a brutal NBA beat for the many Brown backers praying for one final fourth quarter bucket.

Jaylen Brown Prop Bettors Left Reeling From Bad Beat in Game 5

Brown finished with exactly 24 points, needing just one free throw or made basket to give the many prop bettors the win. He likely would have cashed in for the public had the Celtics made the game more competitive. The 76ers had the edge all game long despite being a heavy road underdog. Philadelphia came away with the 115-103 win, but the game wouldn’t have been that close without 8 garbage-time points from Celtics guard Payton Pritchard.

After the game, Brown was critical of the Celtics’ offensive flow and shot-making ability.

“Definitely get more organized. Maintain our spacing. I feel like we got the same looks over and over again,” Brown said, per NBC Sports. “We got a lot of open looks, and we didn’t make shots tonight, but I think that we can be better, and I think that we will be better.”

The Brown prop bets became so popular leading up to Tuesday’s matchup after he admitted following Game 4 that he needed to be more aggressive on the offensive end and ‘demand the ball’ more instead of deferring to his teammates. Instead, it was more of the same for the Celtics offense in Game 5. Brown has had 16 shot attempts in each of the last two losses and has not had over 18 field goal attempts in the entire series.

It’s easy to see how Brown’s frustration makes sense given how poor Boston’s role players are shooting the ball in recent games. Al Horford missed all seven shots in Game 5, and Marcus Smart (14 points) was the only player other than Brown and Jayson Tatum to score in double figures.

One could certainly say that the Celtics need more out of their secondary scorers to come back in the series, but they also need to get their best players more open looks. Brown and Tatum will need to lead the charge in Game 6. The early over/under line for Brown’s points is once again set at 24.5 (with the over juiced to -125 on DraftKings), and the public will likely be tilted towards the over again.

After Brown’s bad beat and poor shooting performance from teammates in Game 5, it is a solid bet to continue backing the over on Brown’s points for the remainder of the 76ers-Celtics series. However, many of the rightfully annoyed bettors who lost on the Brown prop Tuesday may be scared off for the time being…
