Joel Embiid Injury Update: Is Philadelphia’s Star Playing Tonight?
Joel Embiid Injury Update
Superstar center Joel Embiid may not be available for Tuesday’s game against the Pacers. He picked up a questionable tag due to left hip soreness. The injury is a new one: Embiid hasn’t been flagged for a left hip issue yet this season.
Embiid has played all nine games for the 76ers thus far, including both legs of a back-to-back set against the Toronto Raptors and Portland Trail Blazers. However, the 76ers are on the opening leg of a back-to-back set tonight, and they’ll face the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.
Is Joel Embiid Playing for Philadelphia Tonight?
So is Joel Embiid playing for the Philadelphia 76ers tonight? My guess is probably not. Wednesday’s game against the Boston Celtics is a far more meaningful one for the 76ers, and they’ll also have to play it with a rest disadvantage because Boston’s last game will have been on Monday. I expect Embiid to play either tonight or tomorrow but not both days.
The 76ers are trading as 5.5-point favorites over the Pacers tonight. Embiid’s points prop sits at a whopping 32.5. The Pacers cough up the most points in the paint per game, so it makes sense. If Embiid sits, the 76ers will likely use Paul Reed and Robert Covington as his replacements.
If you agree with me that Embiid has a high chance of sitting, consider fading the 76ers at BetMGM. The Pacers should find a way to cover the 5.5-point spread if Embiid sits, especially with Kelly Oubre Jr. and Nicolas Batum sidelined.
