Per DraftKings, Kevin Durant is now a heavy favorite (-300) to be traded ahead of the trade deadline. Irving (-800) has the highest odds of any player reportedly on the block.
Durant has continued to dominate the league in his age-34 season, ranking eighth in the NBA in scoring (29.7 points per game) to go along with 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He has been sidelined since early January with a knee injury, but the sentiment remains that he’ll likely be cleared to return sooner rather than later.
The Nets’ recent woes without Durant were magnified on Wednesday night when they were blown out by the Boston Celtics, 139-96. Irving vented his frustration to the media after the game.
“When you’re going against a very motivated team such as the Boston Celtics, they have a chip on their shoulder,” Irving said, per Mass Live. “It’s clear as day that they want to win a championship and not waste any time in the regular season. The Nets have been rumored to be floating the idea of an Irving-Durant trade since last season but opted to give it one more try this time around. The team continues to struggle and deal with off-court drama, and perhaps now might finally be the time they decide to go forward with a full-blown rebuild.
