Scott Foster is just what New York Knicks fans needed to give some hope they can pull off the win against the Miami Heat Friday and push the series to a Game 7. The notorious official has been on the floor for many Heat losses over the past couple of years and was announced as the crew chief for tonight’s Knicks-Heat Game 6 in Miami.

No we’re not celebrating Scott Foster because he favors the Knicks, we’re celebrating Scott Foster because he calls fair games.

Foster has been nicknamed “The Extender” because of his knack for being involved when a series gets pushed to another game. But for Heat fans, Foster’s insertion has even more impact. The Heat have lost their past 10 games when Foster is involved and have just one win in the past 13 games Foster has officiated. Moreover, the Heat are 3-10 against the spread in games where Foster has been involved.
Foster was the lead ref in three of the Heat’s playoff losses this postseason, including when they lost 111-105 in Game 2 against the Knicks. But so far, the market does not seem to be buying the narrative surrounding Foster.
Per BetMGM data analyst John Ewing, the Heat have moved to 6-point favorites after opening at -4.5. Bettors have continued to drive up the price, with 74% of bets and 79% of the money on Miami to cover the spread at home. The Knicks (+180 on the moneyline) have just 10% of betting money on their side as they look to pull off the upset.
The Heat have won all four home games this postseason and will look to continue protecting the home floor with a chance to punch their ticket to the Conference Final.
Knicks fans and backers need something to latch onto with their backs against the wall in Game 6. And the Scott Foster news is just what the doctor ordered to keep the hope alive in the Big Apple.
