The NBA 3-Point Contest has had some tight odds in the past, but this year's event feels even more up-for-grabs than previous competitions. Hield, the 2020 NBA 3-Point Contest winner, leads the NBA with 230 3-pointers made this season, 34 ahead of Simmons. Lillard ranks fourth with 191 3's but has been the hottest shooter in the league since the new year. He has poured in at least five 3-pointers in each of his past three games, including going 8-for-14 from 3-point range during a 40-point performance against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.
“I think the number one thing is just being aggressive," Lillard said after that performance, per The Score. "That’s the mentality, because I’m not going out there saying I want to score points — I’m just applying pressure. I’m going to attack coverages, take opportunities that are there, try to create opportunities."
Even Lakers head coach Darvin Ham had to tip his cap.
“Aside from stealing his sneakers, I don’t know what else you could do," Ham said.
Any of these contestants have the shooting ability to pull off the victory, but it's no surprise that Hield is the favorite given his performance thus far this season coupled with the fact that he already has a 3-Point Contest trophy to his name. But the Damian Lillard betting interest is also understandable.
Lillard currently ranks sixth in NBA history in 3-pointers made (2,334) and will likely continue to climb the list of all-time greats before it's said and done. Based on the latest NBA 3-Point Contest odds and trends, many bettors out there will be celebrating if Damian Lillard adds a chapter to his legacy by winning the event.
