The Sacramento Kings got some fantastic games out of second-year wing Keegan Murray. Murray racked up 29 points on 8-for-17 from the floor in his first appearance. He then tallied 41 points on 11-for-20 from the floor in his second. Not wanting to risk injury, the Kings have since pulled the plug on Murray for the summer.
In their first game without Murray, the Kings beat the Atlanta Hawks by a four-point margin. They were led by point guard Jordan Ford and his 20 points on 8-for-14 from the floor. Wing Kessler Edwards was the team’s next-leading scorer with 14 points on 3-for-7 from the floor.
Although we’re yet to see Edwards go off for 20-plus points in the Summer League, I suspect that a big game is coming for the veteran. Sacramento’s Summer League roster lacks Edwards’ NBA experience, and we’ve seen him shoot more aggressively already — Edwards attempted 14 field goals in Sacramento’s first Summer League game.
The Kings will take on the Los Angeles Clippers tonight. The Clippers lost their first Summer League game to the Utah Jazz by six points. The Jazz got 20-plus points out of wings Ochai Agbaji and Keyonte George in the win, along with another 13 from bench wing Johnny Juzang. Center Micah Potter added 18 points of his own as the Clippers recorded an atrocious defensive rating of 118.8.
