The Utah Jazz got to play a pair of games in Salt Lake City before the action in Las Vegas got fully underway. Utah went 1-2 in those games, losing to the Chet Holmgren-led Oklahoma City Thunder and the Philadelphia 76ers. They then beat the Memphis Grizzlies by 15 points, with guard Ochai Agbaji scoring 22 and wing Johnny Juzang scoring 15.
Juzang came off the bench but still played 23 minutes in Utah’s last Summer League game. He took nine shots, the third-most of Utah’s players, and converted six of them. Three of those made shots and five of those attempts came from beyond the arc. He missed Utah’s first game and scored only nine points in the second on 3-for-11 from the floor and 2-for-5 from beyond the arc.
The Jazz should continue to feature Juzang in a sizeable role tonight. Utah lacks quality depth at small forward, where they have been using him, and at shooting guard. Juzang averaged only 8.6 points and 9.2 field-goal attempts per game in last year’s summer league. He struggled to get the ball in the hoop last year, but his year of off-and-on NBA action should help him improve his efficiency against players without similar experience.
Unlike Juzang and the Jazz, the Los Angeles Clippers are yet to play any Summer League games thus far, putting them at a disadvantage on both ends of the floor. The Clippers have plenty of experienced veterans on their Summer League roster, but they lack the size and skill at wing necessary to limit Juzang.
