Updated Lakers-Grizzlies Series Betting odds After Game 1

Per BetMGM, The Lakers (+140) were a slight underdog in the series odds against the Grizzlies (-140). But now, LA (-250) has taken over as the heavy-betting favorites. The Lakers closed as a five-point underdog on Sunday but got some clutch contributions from unlikely players.

With all the storylines surrounding LeBron James and Anthony Davis heading into the Round 1 series, it was Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura who stole the show in the first game. Reaves and Hachimura combined for 52 points, with Reaves scoring 15 in the fourth quarter alone.

Davis appeared to injure his right shoulder late in the first half, immediately calling for the trainer after landing awkwardly to the floor. But he would return later in the second half, finishing the game with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The Grizzlies were going back and forth with the Lakers for most of the afternoon before falling flat in the fourth quarter in the 128-112 loss. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the way for Memphis with 31 points, with Desmond Bane adding 22. Point guard Ja Morant left the game in the fourth quarter with a hand injury. Immediate x-rays on the injury were negative, but Morant’s status for the remainder of the series remains up in the air.

“He’s in some pain,” head coach Taylor Jenkins said to ESPN, adding that Morant’s hand and wrist were being evaluated by the Memphis medical staff. “Taking it one day at a time,” the coach said later, referring to Morant’s status for Wednesday’s Game 2.

Perhaps the Grizzlies would exercise more caution with Morant’s injury had they won Game 1. But now that the Lakers have stolen one on the road, Tuesday’s Game 2 seems pretty close to a “must-win” for the Griz. The updated Lakers-Grizzlies series betting odds show Memphis is in danger.
