Sometimes, college baseball betting is all about spot selection. The Ole Miss Rebels’ home opener is scheduled for today. They’re coming off a disappointing 2-2 series split versus the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, and they’ll look to take out their frustrations on the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
The Red Wolves enter this game at 4-0 after sweeping Omaha this weekend and beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday. All four of those games were in Jonesboro, so they’ll now make the two-and-a-half-hour trek south to Oxford for this evening’s contest. Both teams have played four games, so they’ll likely be down to their fifth starters, but Ole Miss could get creative since they haven’t played since Sunday.
The Rebs had a disappointing 2023 campaign, but 2024 should be better after they scored the seventh-best transfer class and the 15th-best freshman class. However, it’s three transfers from last season, DH Bo Gatlin (2.067 OPS), OF Ethan Lege (1.299 OPS) and OF Ethan Groff (.778), who are leading the way offensively so far.
Arkansas State has played Ole Miss in an early mid-week game in four of the last five years. The Rebs won 11-3 in 2023, 15-5 in 2022, 12-1 in 2021 and 15-3 in 2019. Sure, the Red Wolves made some improvements over the offseason, but we’re getting Ole Miss at -445 (81.6%), which is a reasonable deal in this spot.

Kennesaw State Owls at Wofford Terriers

The Wofford Terriers enter their mid-week game versus the Kennesaw State Owls at 3-0. They swept the weekend with two wins over Towson and one over Bucknell. The Owls enter at 1-3. They went 1-2 at UAB over the weekend before dropping a home game to Mercer last night.
It’s unclear who the starting pitchers are for this one, but Wofford has a leg up by virtue of not having played on Tuesday. The Terriers get their top mid-week option; Kennesaw State is stuck with its second. The Owls went 4-8 in mid-week action last year while the Terriers went a dominant 12-2, only losing games to Tennessee and Georgia.
Wofford’s unique offensive style makes them a tough mid-week matchup. The Terriers steal a lot of bases (their 2.59 ranked fourth last season) and bunt a lot — they led college baseball with 86 sacrifice bunts. Every Wofford player with three or more plate appearances has gotten on base at a clip of .350 or better this season, and they’re averaging 4.7 stolen bases per game to start the year.
