Bracket 1 Will Be a Bloodbath
Featuring both the preseason No. 1 team, LSU, and the regular-season No. 1 team, Wake Forest, Bracket 1 isn’t a great place to be no matter who you are. Although the first round in Omaha is double-elimination, the books are signaling serious confidence in both Wake Forest and LSU by listing them as the two favorite teams despite the impossibility of both advancing further.
Behind Wake Forest and LSU are two dangerous programs. The Tennessee Volunteers have a threatening ace in RHP Andrew Lindsey who could challenge LSU’s ace, RHP Paul Skenes, in Game 1. Although the Stanford Cardinal don’t have much to write home about on the mound, their offense ranks an impressive 10th in OPS, only slightly behind fifth-ranked Wake Forest and second-ranked LSU.
Wake Forest is the likeliest team to advance from this grouping. Neither Wake Forest nor LSU has lost an NCAA tournament game so far, but Wake has a healthier pitching rotation and a better first-game matchup. This is the last chance you’ll have to get action on the Demon Deacons at a number better than even, and the minimal line movement between rounds (2.9%) shouldn’t keep you from investing.

Will We Get an Upset in Bracket 2?
Because we targeted Florida at +550 last week, there’s no reason to discuss them at +380. Let’s talk about an underdog instead.
Early in the season, the TCU Horned Frogs were the talk of the town. They shot up early rankings after a surprisingly good performance in early tournament play with neutral-site wins over Vanderbilt and Arkansas. An ill-fated series against Florida State and poor conference play led many to write TCU off, but the Horned Frogs are still kicking.
TCU has not lost a game since postseason play began in late May. The Horned Frogs won four straight games to claim the Big 12 title, and they did so by an average margin of 8.3 runs. They then won three straight in the Fayetteville Regional by an average margin of 10.3. Next, they swept Indiana State in the Fort Worth Super Regional by an average margin of 2.5.
The Horned Frogs don’t have college baseball’s best pitching staff, but their offense comes into this round red hot. Further, every other team in this pod has lost at least once during the NCAA tournament — Florida dropped a game to Texas Tech, Oral Roberts to Oregon and Virginia to Duke. TCU should probably have shorter odds than Virginia, so while +800 is a bit of a buy-high, it isn’t a terrible one.
