The College World Series rolls on, and either the Tennessee Volunteers or Stanford Cardinal will go home today. College Baseball World Series 2023 Betting Odds & Picks Today: June 19

Bracket 1: Tennessee vs. Stanford | Monday, June 19 at 2 p.m. ET

The College World Series continues with an elimination game today. Either Tennessee or Stanford will go home after this one, but the other will get a shot at taking down a top-tier program, either LSU or Wake Forest, on Wednesday.

The pitching battle could get interesting. Tennessee will turn to RHP Chase Dollander (7-6), whose 4.50 ERA isn’t quite what you’d like to see from a supposed top-10 prospect. Stanford will turn to LHP Quinn Mathews (10-4), whose 3.60 ERA and impressive record stem from dominance against Pac-12 opponents. Mathews threw 156 pitches against Texas last weekend. That workload may have some consequences this weekend.

Dollander has plenty of experience in elimination games. He threw in one last weekend against Southern Miss after Tennessee dropped Game 1. He also threw in one last year against Notre Dame. The Volunteers won both contests in no small part because of Dollander’s efforts.

I’m skeptical of Stanford mainly because of their unimpressive schedule. The Cardinal rank 32nd in strength of schedule while the Volunteers rank 18th. Stanford is 3-5 against top-25 teams in the RPI while Tennessee is 12-12. Stanford may have the more impressive offensive numbers, but they largely came against less remarkable opposition.

Let’s back the Volunteers to win this one outright with Dollander on the mound. Tennessee is trading at -145 (59.2%) at DraftKings Sportsbook but only -130 (56.5%) at FanDuel Sportsbook. Yet to sign up at FanDuel? You can get a no-sweat first bet worth up to $2,500!
