Bracket 2: Florida (-195) vs. TCU | Wednesday, June 21 at 2 p.m. ET
The TCU Horned Frogs put together one of the most dominant runs strung together all season to secure their spot in Omaha. They dominated the Big 12 tournament and won each game by an average of 8.3 runs. They locked down the Fayetteville Regional by 10.3 runs per game. Then they swept Indiana State in Fort Worth by an average of 2.5 per game.
TCU’s impressive run meant that the Horned Frogs came into Omaha with their last loss on May 18. In that game, which came against Kansas State, TCU took the lead late only to hand it right back — exactly what the Horned Frogs did against Oral Roberts on Friday. TCU’s last four losses have all come by exactly one run. Their last multi-run loss came on April 30.
Although having to play yesterday hurt the team’s ability to rest the bullpen, coach Kirk Saarloos has done an excellent job of managing his arms. His opening-game starter, RHP Kole Klecker (10-4), threw only 87 pitches before exiting. He should be fresh enough to go today. Klecker is the only TCU pitcher to have thrown more than 70 pitches in Omaha.
Florida is a tough team, but the Gators haven’t been perfect, especially not in the postseason. They fell to Texas Tech early in the Gainesville Regional before bouncing back. They then swept South Carolina in supers before winning their first two games in Omaha, but three of those four games were one-run wins.
TCU’s offense is well-equipped to handle the pitcher-friendly conditions in Omaha. TCU has nine doubles in Omaha to Florida’s two. The Horned Frogs are also averaging a steady five runs per game. Although the Gators have six home runs to the Horned Frogs’ one, that kind of power isn’t likely sustainable, especially if the winds pick up in the wrong direction.
The TCU run line is trading at +1.5 across the market, but most books have it just at even or right below. However, we can find the +110 (47.6%) at BetMGM. New to BetMGM? You can get first-bet insurance worth up to $1,000 when you register!
