College Basketball Betting Picks & Odds | Feb. 10

College Basketball Odds: Xavier (-6.5) vs. Butler

In an interesting clash of Big East opponents, Xavier takes on Butler in the first of two meetings this year. Xavier is one of the hotter teams in the country, with a 19-5 record, while Butler enters this game at 12-13. The spread opened around -5.5 at most books, but Xavier has quickly taken money despite the loss of big man Zach Freemantle. With that said, the Musketeers have several advantages.

Starting at the player level, the absence of Freemantle actually hasn’t mattered much for Xavier. EvanMiya.com evaluates each individual player through a metric called Bayesian Performance Rating, which allows a side-by-side player comparison. Freemantle scores at 3.62, while new starter Jerome Hunter comes in at 3.12. This shows only a slight drop-off in play when Hunter comes in for Freemantle. Additionally, Hunter is 6-foot-8, which is barely a downgrade from the 6-foot-9 Freemantle.

With Jack Nunge still available at 7-foot-0, Xavier has a clear size advantage. The Musketeers also have a massive edge on offense, ranking second in the country in 3-point percentage. Between size and elite 3-point shooting, few teams can stop Xavier’s elite offense. While Butler checks in at 130th in defensive efficiency, it simply does not have the roster to run with Xavier on a nightly basis.

College Basketball Odds: Northern Kentucky vs. Wright State (-2.5)

This is the second matchup between these Horizon League opponents. Northern Kentucky took the first game at home by a score of 78-64. While the lopsided win at home works in Northern Kentucky’s favor, Wright State has already taken money overnight. Now at home, the Raiders could be primed for a bounce back.

Wright State is the more balanced team. The Raiders rank 128th in offensive efficiency and 134th in defensive efficiency. Meanwhile, the Norse come in at 228th on offense and 110th on defense. Wright State is also bigger, ranking 221st in height and 57th in rebounding, with Northern Kentucky at 279th and 296th, respectively. These slight edges point to Wright State at home in this matchup.
