The Wildcats saw an entire program overhaul in the first season under head coach Jerome Tang, who masterfully used the transfer portal to turn the team into contenders after they missed out on the tournament last season. However, point guard phenom Markquis Nowell was one of just a couple of leftovers from last year’s squad and has made the most of this NCAA Tournament run.

Nowell has made clutch shot after clutch shot throughout the tournament, also showcases elite passing ability with slick assists throughout the first three rounds. His 19 assists in the win over Michigan State was an NCAA Tournament record.

“I just wanted to do it for my teammates,” he said after the OT win, per ESPN. “I love being out there with these guys, and I wasn’t going to let a little injury like this, that happens on the basketball court all the time, stop me from playing in the Sweet 16 and advancing to the Elite Eight.”

But now Nowell and Kansas State are running into an FAU team that isn’t ready to end their Cinderella run just yet. The Owls booked their ticket to the Sweet 16 with a win over No. 16 seed, Farleigh Dickinson, and were able to upset Tennessee to set up the date with Kansas State.

The Elite 8 betting trends show many out there are looking for Kansas State to make it through to the Final Four. But don’t sleep on FAU, especially after all the upsets we’ve seen over the past few days.
